BT North America Authorized to Enter U.S. Market as International Reseller On November 14, 1994 the International Bureau released its partial grant of BT North America's (BTNA) application (File No. I-T-C-93-126) to provide international service on a resale basis. The Bureau's decision introduces additional competition in the resale of international telecommunications services, fostering lower prices, innovative services and increased responsiveness to consumer needs, all of which in turn should help to stimulate U.S. economic growth. The success of the United States and the United Kingdom in liberalizing their markets to additional forms of competition should encourage other countries to make their telecommunications markets more open to foreign investment and increased competition. Specifically, BTNA is authorized to resell international switched services to various international points and non- interconnected private line services to Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands. At BTNA's request, the Bureau deferred action on the portion of BTNA's application regarding resale of international private lines for switched services and nondominant status.
