Internet Anonymous FTP site: ftp.fcc.gov January 31, 1996 FCC Announces Next Meeting to Discuss Implementation of Toll Free 888 Database The FCC will hold the fourteenth in a series of meetings with the industry to track the deployment of the new toll free 888 area code. These meetings are part of the Commission's overall plan to conserve use of the existing toll free 800 numbers and accelerate the availability of the new toll free 888 numbers. This meeting will be held on Wednesday Febraury 7, 1996 and will begin at 9:00 a.m. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at Bellcore, Room B1-B2, 2101 L Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. A tentative agenda meeting is attached. If you are giving a presentation, please bring 60 copies. This meeting will address any implementation issues that may arise during the deployment of the 888 database. There will be reports from various industry segments, including local exchange carriers, interexchange carriers and switch vendors. Future meetings will continue to be held approximately every two weeks throughout planning for 888 deployment. Documents from these meetings will be available for public viewing the day after each meeting at the FCC, 2025 M Street, N.W., Room 6010, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Copies of these documents are available from the Commission's copy contractor, ITS, 202/857-3800. The FCC is holding these meetings as part of its overall effort to smooth the transition from the existing toll free 800 number system to the new toll free 888 system. The FCC continues to work with the 800 service provider industry to conserve the existing 800 numbers and to ensure the efficient use of these resources.
