Today, the Common Carrier Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) made the following announcements of promotions and appointments in the Network Services Division (NSD). This completes the selection of the NSD management team that started with the appointment of L. Charles Keller as Division Chief in October 1999. Diane Griffin Harmon has been appointed Deputy Division Chief for the Network Services Division. Ms. Harmon will have primary responsibility for all numbering administration issues. Ms. Harmon served as Assistant Division Chief for Network Services during 1999, where, in addition to her management duties, she served as the Designated Federal Official to the North American Numbering Council. Prior to joining Network Services, Ms. Harmon had been Deputy Chief of the Formal Complaints and Investigations Branch of the Enforcement Division since April, 1998. Ms. Harmon joined the Commission in 1996 as a Trial Attorney in the Litigation Division of the FCC's Office of General Counsel, and was detailed to work as a Staff Attorney in the Formal Complaints and Investigations Branch of the Enforcement Division. Staci L. Pies has been appointed Deputy Chief for the Network Services Division. Ms. Pies will have primary responsibility for work relating to network service and reliability, including issues regarding competitive access to next-generation networks, access for the disabled, and Part 68 equipment policies and registration. Ms. Pies has been an attorney in the Policy Division of the Common Carrier Bureau since 1996. As a senior attorney in the Policy Division, she supervised projects related to advanced services and information services. Ms. Pies joined the Commission in 1994, as a staff attorney in the Cable Services Bureau, Consumer Protection Division. - more - Gregory M. Cooke has been appointed Assistant Division Chief for the Network Services Division. In addition to his management duties, Mr. Cooke will have primary responsibility for certain local competition, and local transport and access area (LATA) issues, including LATA modifications to deploy advanced telecommunications services. Mr. Cooke joined NSD in September 1996 as a senior staff attorney, and was team leader on local competition projects handled by NSD, including directory assistance and dialing parity, as well as LATA boundary jurisdiction. Mr. Cooke joined the Commission as a staff attorney in the Competitive Pricing Division in May 1995. The Network Services Division handles technical rulemaking issues related to the network, including, among other things, telephone-numbering issues, competitive access to next-generation networks, telecommunications access issues for people with disabilities, Part 68 equipment authorizations, and issues concerning LATA boundary modifications. - FCC -
