PUBLIC NOTICE Federal Communications Commission 1919 M St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 DA 96-35 PLEADING CYCLE ESTABLISHED FOR COMMENTS ON SOUTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY'S PETITION FOR WAIVER OF THE COMMISSION'S COMPUTER III RULES CC Docket No. 90-623 Released: January 19, 1996 On January 11, 1996 Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (SWBT) filed a petition requesting a waiver of the Commission's Computer III Comparably Efficient Interconnection (CEI) Rules on an expedited basis so that it may offer a reverse-search capability in conjunction with its electronic white pages offering, DirectLine Custom (DLC), which is a federally tariffed basic common carriage offering. Specifically, SWBT requests the waiver in order to add a reverse-search capability to the DLC offering which is similar to reverse-search services now provided by other electronic directory providers. SWBT states that the proposed DLC reverse-search service will allow customers to search the database of telephone subscribers by telephone number, rather than only by name. SWBT states that it will provide the reverse-search capability on an enhanced service basis in compliance with the Commission's Joint Cost Rules and SWBT's approved Cost Allocation Manual (CAM). SWBT states that this service will be offered on an integrated basis by changing the existing functionalities in the current DLC offering. SWBT states that the Commission should waive compliance with the CEI requirements because access to SWBT's facilities is not necessary for competition in the reverse-search market. Interested parties should file comments on SWBT's petition by February 19, 1996 and reply comments by March 5, 1996 with the Secretary, FCC, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554.
