Washington, D.C. 20554 DA 96-435 PLEADING CYCLE ESTABLISHED FOR COMMENTS ON CLASSIC TELEPHONE, INC.'S PETITION FOR PRE OF LOCAL ENTRY BARRIERS PURSUANT TO SECTION 253 CCBPol 96-10 Released: March 26, 1996 On March 19, 1996, Classic Telephone, Inc. (Classic) filed a petition for preemption, declaratory ruling and injunctive relief pursuant Section 101(a) of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, to be codified at 47 U.S.C.  253 (the 1996 Act). Classic states that it has been blocked from entry into local telecommunications services markets by two Kansas municipalities, Hill City and Bogue (the Cities), in violation of the 1996 Act. Specifically, Classic requests preemption of the alleged unlawful conduct of the Cities. It further requests that the FCC enjoin the Cities from taking any further action that directly or indirectly interferes with Classic's right and ability to provide telecommunications services to customers within those municipalities. Interested parties should file comments on Classic's petition by April 25, 1996 and reply comments by May 10, 1996 with the Secretary, FCC, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554.
