COMMISSION SEEKS COMMENT ON SOUTHWESTERN BELL'S REQUEST FOR
                 A STAY OF CERTAIN CALLER ID REQUIREMENTS

On September 27, 1996, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company ("SWBT") filed a petition for a stay
of Section 64.1601(b), of the Commission's rules, as it applies to public pay telephones, hotel/motel
lines, centrex/plexar lines and automatic call return services.  47 C.F.R. 1601(b).  See  Rules and
Policies Regarding Calling Number Identification Service -- Caller ID, Memorandum Opinion and
Order on Reconsideration, Second Report and Order and Third Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, 10
FCC Rcd 11700 (1995).   SWBT seeks the stay until the Commission has made a ruling on issues
raised in BellSouth's Petition for Reconsideration and the Third Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.

Interested parties may file comments concerning this matter on or before October 24, 1996.  All filings
should refer to the pleading as:   Southwestern Bell Request for Stay, CC Docket No. 91-281.  All
