         COMMON CARRIER BUREAU ANNOUNCES EX PARTE MEETING
       SCHEDULE ON ADVANCED SERVICES RULEMAKING PROCEEDING
                       CC DOCKET NO. 98-147

     To the extent that parties wish to discuss issues related to the rulemaking proceeding in
CC Docket No. 98-147, Deployment of Wireline Services Offering Advanced
Telecommunications Capability, the Policy and Program Planning Division of the Common
Carrier Bureau, the Office of Plans and Policy and the Office of Engineering and Technology will
be available for joint meetings between October 13, 1998 and November 5, 1998.  After this
period, ex parte meetings will occur only at the request of Commission staff.  Parties who wish to
schedule meetings with any of these offices should call Florence Grasso, Policy and Program
Planning Division, at 202-418-1579.

     The public is reminded that this proceeding is being treated as a "permit-but-disclose"
proceeding for purposes of the Commision's ex parte rules.  See generally 47 C.F.R.  1.1200-
1.1216.  Parties making oral ex parte presentations are reminded that memoranda summarizing
the presentations must contain summaries of the substance of the presentations and not merely a
listing of the subjects discussed.  More than a one or two sentence description of the views and
arguments presented is generally required.  See 47 C.F.R.  1.1206(b)(2), as revised.  Other rules
pertaining to oral and written presentations are set forth in Section 1.1206(b) as well.  Interested
parties are to file with the Commission Secretary and serve Florence Grasso, Policy and Program
Planning Division, Common Carrier Bureau, FCC, Room 544, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington,
D.C.  20554, and ITS, 2131 20th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.  20036, with copies of written
ex parte presentations or summaries of oral ex parte presentations in these proceedings in the
manner specified above.
