Re:	       Application of  Southwestern Bell Corporation Inc. for Authorization Under Section 271 of the Communications Act to Provide In-Region, InterLATA Service in the States of Arkansas and Missouri, CC Docket No. 01-194.

Dear Attorney General Ashcroft, Chairman Simmons, and Chairman Hochstetter,

  	Pursuant to section 271(d)(2) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, (the Act), this letter is to advise you that on August 20, 2001, Southwestern Bell Corporation Inc. filed an application requesting authorization under section 271 of the Act to provide in-region, interLATA service in the states of Arkansas and Missouri.  Attached is a Public Notice that, inter alia, sets forth the dates on which filings concerning that application are due.  Also attached is a protective order, Protective Order, DA 01-194 (Common Carrier Bur. rel. Aug. 20, 2001), that establishes the conditions under which access to confidential documents submitted in this proceeding by Southwestern Bell Corporation Inc. or any other party will be made available.
