NEWS February 18, 1997 OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY TUTORIAL "CABLE MODEMS" MARCH 6, 1997 Rouzbeh Yassini, Vice President and General Manager of the Data Over Cable Division for Bay Networks' Internet and Telecom Business Group, will deliver a tutorial on "Cable Modems" on March 6, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. The tutorial will take place in the FCC Commission Meeting Room, Room 856, 1919 M Street N.W. Mr. Yassini's tutorial will cover cable modem technology overview, deployment overview, standards, next generation, business criteria and challenges, and customer expectations. Mr. Yassini founded LANcity Corporation in 1990 to develop high-speed modems for data transmission over cable networks. He grew the company, as CEO and president, from $1 million in 1993 to $42 million in 1996, prior to the acquisition of LANcity by Bay Networks in September 1996. Prior to founding LANcity he had served as an officer with Applitek Corporation from 1988 to 1990, and was responsible for design and development of LAN products for Proteon, Inc. from 1986 to 1988. He began with GE in 1981, working on television and digital television design, signal processing and cable TV technology. Mr. Yassini has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University and a Financial Management Program degree from GE.
