Before the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Washington, D.C. 20554 In the Matter of Satellite Radio Applications For Earth Stations To Operate With INTELSAT Satellites Transferred to New Skies Satellites N.V. Order Adopted: July 30, 1999 Released: July 30, 1999 By Chief, Satellite and Radiocommunication Division: 1. By this Order, and on our own motion, we extend our grants of Special Temporary Authority (STA) to earth stations operating with the satellites that transferred from INTELSAT to New Skies Satellites, N.V. (New Skies). This action ensures that U.S. earth station operators will be able to continue to provide service using the New Skies satellites pending final Commission action on the underlying applications. These grants are extended from July 30, 1999 until August 29, 1999. 2. On November 30, 1998, we released an Order granting over 90 STA requests to allow earth station operators providing service using certain INTELSAT satellites to continue operating when those satellites transferred to New Skies. In addition, on June 9, 1999, we granted six earth station applicants STA authority, consistent with the Assembly Decision, to operate with the satellites that transferred from INTELSAT to New Skies in order to provide additional service options to U.S. consumers. The STA authority for both Orders expires on July 30, 1999. 3. In order to allow us to consider fully all issues raised in the underlying applications requesting regular authority to operate with the New Skies satellites, we extend the STAs' operating term for 30 days, until August 29, 1999, subject to the same terms and conditions specified in the November 30, 1999 STA Order and the June 9, 1999 STA Order. 4. Accordingly, pursuant to Sections 0.261 and 25.120 of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. 0.261 and 47 C.F.R. 25.120, the November 30, 1999 STA Order IS EXTENDED until August 29, 1999. 5. Accordingly, pursuant to Sections 0.261 and 25.120 of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. 0.261 and 47 C.F.R. 25.120, the June 9, 1999 STA Order IS EXTENDED until August 29, 1999. 6. This authorization is issued pursuant to Section 0.261 of the Commission's rules and is effective upon adoption. Petitions for Reconsideration, pursuant to Section 1.106 of the Commission's Rules, 47 C.F.R. 1.106, may be filed within 30 days of the public notice of this Order.
