File No. 53-SAT-STA-96 GE Americom has filed a request for an extension of Special Temporary Authority to continue operating its GSTAR I satellite beyond its ten-year license term. GSTAR I was placed into service June 7, 1985. GE Americom is seeking the maximum statutory period of six months to continue to provide service over GSTAR I. Direct Broadcasting Satellite Corporation File No. 55-SAT-AL-96 Direct Broadcasting Satellite Corporation (DBSC) has filed an application for assignment of its conditional Direct Broadcast Satellite service permit. DBSC is requesting approval of a merger between Direct Broadcasting Satellite Corporation, a Colorado Corporation and wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Communications Corporation (DBSC-CO), and Direct Broadcasting Satellite Corporation, a Delaware Corporation and conditional permittee in the DBS service (File No. DBS-88-08) (DBSC-DE). The merger will pemit EchoStar to combine 11 DBS channels currently assigned to DBSC-DE at 61.5 W.L. with the 21 held cumulatively by EchoStar's subsidiaries EchoStar Satellite Corporation and Directsat Corporation at 119 W.L. DBSC-DE's 11 channels at 175 W.L. will add to the 11 channels at 175 W.L. obtained in the EchoStar-Directsat merger and the 24 channels at 148 W.L. obtained by EchoStar at auction. DBSC states that this merger will offer enhanced competitive opportunites assuring the public interest will be served by vigorous competition among DBS operators. PanAmSat Licensee Corporation File No. 58-SAT-WAIV-96 PanAmSat Licensee Corporation has filed an Emergency Request for Waiver so that its application for authority to construct, launch and operate a second separate international satellite (PAS-21) at 68.5 W.L. may be processed under pre-existing "case-by-case" separate system processing. PanAmSat further requests that any grant of this waiver be extended to its PAS-13 amendment. - FCC -
