MCI Telecommunications Corporation File No. 73-SAT-P-96 MCI Telecommunications Corporation (MCI) has filed an application to construct, launch and operate a Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) service system, consisting of two satellites. MCI proposes to operate both satellites in a cluster configuration at 110ø W.L. in the 12.2-12.7 Ghz band, utilizing DBS channels 1-31 (odd), 2-22 (even) and 26. Each satellite will be equipped with thirty- two transponders. The proposed satellites will utilize a shaped beam to provide coverage to CONUS, with extensions of the beam to serve Puerto Rico and Alaska. A separate spot beam is proposed to provide service to Hawaii. MCI proposes to operate the system on a non-broadcast, non-common carrier basis. Petitions or oppositions may be filed on or before April 1, 1996. Responses may be filed on or before April 15, 1996. Note: The provisions of Section 100.15(b) of the Commission s Rules, 47 C.F.R.  100.15(b), specifying a 45 day cutoff period for applications to be considered in conjunction with this application are not applicable to this application. Only MCI, as winning bidder in the Commission s DBS auction, is eligible to file an application for an authorization for the specified channels.
