Report No. I-8300 Friday, May 1, 1998 DA 98-821 INTERNATIONAL BUREAU TO HOLD ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION OF YE AR 2000 ISSUES AFFECTING INTERNATIONAL TELEC OMMUNICATIONS CARRIERS ON MAY 15TH As part of an ongoing series of roundtable discussions being hosted by the Commission, the International Bureau will hold its first roundtable discussion of Year 2000 issues on Friday, May 15th. This particular roundtable will focus on issues of concern to international telecommunications carriers. The International Bureau is hosting a series of roundtable discussions with various sectors of the U.S. communications industry to raise awareness, share ideas, and monitor industry's efforts to meet the Year 2000 challenge. These roundtables are designed to encourage U.S. communications companies and users of communications services to work together to avoid any serious disruptions or failures in service as a consequence of the millennial date change. Contingency planning will also be under discussion, and the Commission will solicit suggestions from participants for other actions that government and industry can take to address the Year 2000 problem. The first roundtable of the series, which is designed for telecommunications carriers, has been scheduled for Friday, May 15th from 10:00 AM-11:30 AM in the International Bureau, at 2000 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. The room is to be announced. The International Bureau will hold a series of sessions with the U.S. international telecommunications and satellite industries.
