PUBLIC NOTICE Federal Communications Commission 1919 - M Street, N.W Washington, D.C. 20554 DA 98-1692 News media Information 202 / 418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202 / 418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.govftp.fcc.gov August 24, 1998 THE NEW INTERNATIONAL BUREAU FILE NUMBER FORMAT On August 24, 1998, the International Bureau will begin using a new consolidated licensing and authorization system, IBFS, and a new file number format. The system is the result of a 11- month effort to design and develop one automated system to aid in the processing of the variety of applications received by the Bureau. IBFS also has electronic filing and internet reporting components which are currently being tested and will be made available to the public in the Fall. The new file number format is designed to help applicants, FCC processing staff and researchers identify basic information about filings quickly and facilitate research activities. The change to the new format will not impact the normal application process. Applicants should continue to refer to the International Bureau Fee Filing Guide or the Rules when submitting applications or filings. Applications accepted by the Bureau prior to the transition will be assigned a corresponding file number in the new format, but can be accessed by either the new or original file number. For example, if an earth station registration application was filed with the Commission on 5/28/1998 and assigned the file number 1034-DSE-L-98, the new file number in IBFS will be SES-REG-19980528-00416. Applicants and researchers may use either the original or new IBFS file number when making inquiries on an existing filing. The new standard file number format is explained in detail below.
