Report No. MM-853 MASS MEDIA ACTION October 6, 1994 FCC GRANTS RENEWAL APPLICATION OF WMYG(FM), BRADDOCK, PA, WITH CONDITIONS; ISSUES NAL IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,000 The Commission has granted the renewal application of WHYW Associates, L.P., for station WMYG(FM), Braddock, PA, subject to reporting conditions. WHYW Associates was also notified of an apparent liability (NAL) for a forfeiture in the amount of $6,000 for violations of the Commission's EEO rule. The Commission dismissed the NAACP's petition to deny the renewal of license for WMYG(FM) following a joint request by the NAACP and the licensee for approval of a settlement agreement. The Commission found that WMYG(FM)'s recruitment efforts were deficient because the licensee recruited for only 11 of 53 positions, contacted minority specific sources for only four vacancies, and failed to maintain adequate documentation for meaningful self-assessment. The Commission therefore issued a forfeiture notice in the amount of $6,000. Action by the Commission September 30, 1994, by Memorandum Opinion and Order (FCC 94-253). Chairman Hundt, Commissioners Barrett, Ness and Chong, with Commissioner Quello concurring in the result. -FCC- News Media contact: Patricia A. Chew at (202) 418-0500.
