NEWS March 28, 1997 ECONOMIC SPEAKER SERIES PRESENTS PROFESSOR LEONARD WAVERMAN Dr. Leonard Waverman will be the next speaker in the Commission's Economic Speaker Series. He is a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Toronto and is a Principal in the Law and Economics Consulting Group. Currently he is a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington and a visiting professor at the London Business School. He is also a Director of the Global Forum on Competition and Trade Policy sponsored by the International Bar Association and the World Bank. He will speak on Wednesday, April 2, 1997, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the Commission Meeting Room, Room 856, at 1919 M Street, NW, Washington, DC. In his presentation, Dr. Waverman will be discussing his paper "Telecommunications Infrastructure and Economic Development: A Simultaneous Approach." According to Dr. Waverman, the paper investigates how telecommunications infrastructure affects economic growth. Dr. Waverman specializes in anti-trust, telecommunications economics, international trade, industrial organization, and energy issues. He has authored numerous scholarly works, was on the recent Advisory Committee on Introducing Competition in Ontario's Electricity System, Province of Ontario, and a Board Member on the Ontario Energy Board, as well as the Ontario Telephone Service Commission. He was a member of NARUC, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, for 6 years. This presentation is open to the public, reservations are not necessary.
