February 24, 1994 COMMISSION UPDATING PHONE SYSTEM, OTHER TECHNOLOGY CHAIRMAN'S OFFICE TELEPHONE NUMBER WILL CHANGE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1994 The Federal Communications Commission is continuing to update its telephone system over the next six months. This change is part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the Commission's technology to better serve the public and to improve the ability of Commission employees to do their jobs. The Commission will complete its conversion to a network of personal computers this April and will have installed voice mail throughout the headquarters offices by that time. The age of the current telephone system, installed more than 25 years ago, has caused problems in getting repair work done and securing replacement parts and has often resulted in calls being cut off and other losses of service. As a result of the rewiring and telephone replacement, the telephone number for the Chairman's office will change as of Monday, February 28, 1994. The new telephone number for the Chairman's office will be (202) 418-1000. Callers who dial 202/632-6600, the previous number, will receive a taped message asking them to call (202) 418-1000. If you experience any difficulty in reaching the Chairman's office as a result of this change, please call the Office of Public Affairs at (202) 632-5050 and your call will be transferred or a message delivered to the correct office. -FCC-
