       FCC CHAIRMAN REED E. HUNDT NAMED CHAIRMAN OF ALASKA PUBLIC
    UTILITIES COMMISSION OF FEDERAL-STATE JOINT BOARD; HONORABLE DON
                    SCHROER NOMINATED AS COMMISSIONER
                            (CC DOCKET 83-1376)

     The Commission has appointed FCC Chairman Reed E. Hundt to
serve as Chairman of the Federal State Joint Board in CC Docket 83-
1376.  He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the
Honorable Ervin S. Duggan.

     The Commission has also named to this Joint Board the
Honorable Don Schroer, Chairman of the Alaska Public Utilities
Commission, to fill the position recently vacated by the Honorable
Susan M. Knowles.

     This Joint Board was established in 1985 to review issues
related to the Alaska telecommunications market structure.  Under
the provisions of the Communications Act, each Joint Board is
comprised of three FCC Commissioners, four state Commissioners, and
is chaired by the Chairman of the FCC.  With the appointment of
Chairman Hundt, FCC Commissioners James H. Quello and Andrew C.
Barrett will continue to serve as members of the Joint Board. State
Commissioners continuing to serve on the Joint Board include Dean
J. "Joe" Miller (Idaho), Bruce Hagen (North Dakota), and David
Rolka (Pennsylvania).

42).  Chairman Hundt, Commissioners Quello and Barrett.
