April 20, 1994 BILL JOHNSON NAMED DEPUTY BUREAU CHIEF FOR POLICY CABLE SERVICES BUREAU Bill Johnson has been detailed to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief for Policy of the Cable Services Bureau. In making the announcement, Chairman Reed Hundt said that Johnson will work hand-in-hand with new Bureau Chief Meredith Jones. "The combination of Bill's long experience at the Commission and specifically on cable issues with Meredith's background in business and finance will complete a strong and effective leadership team at the Cable Services Bureau," Hundt said. Johnson joined the FCC in 1968 as a member of the CATV Task Force. He was named Chief of the Policy Review and Development Division of the Cable Bureau in 1973. In 1980, Johnson was also named to serve as Acting Chief of the Cable Television's Research Division and in 1981 he was named as Chief of the Cable Bureau. When the Mass Media Bureau was created in 1983, Johnson was named as Deputy Bureau Chief, a position he has held since that time. A native of Washington, D.C., Johnson received his B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. He lives with his wife Deborah and their daughter Lindsey in Washington. "Bill's long experience in this area will serve the Bureau, the Commission, and everyone affected by our cable regulation well," Hundt added. "He knows the history of the FCC's cable regulation as well as the people involved both inside and outside the agency.
