NEWS May 10, 1996 MARK URETSKY NAMED SENIOR ECONOMIST, INTERNATIONAL BUREAU Mark Uretsky has been named Senior Economist in the Commission's International Bureau. He will be responsible for advising the Bureau Chief on economic issues and policies that affect international telecommunications markets. For the past 15 months Uretsky has been Chief Economist of the Common Carrier Bureau. In this capacity, he has been responsible for the conduct of economic analysis within the Bureau as well as advising the Bureau Chief on economic matters. Before that, he served in the Common Carrier Bureau's Tariff Division (now called the Competitive Pricing Division) as supervisory economist of the cost analysis staff. "The International Bureau is very lucky to be able to bring aboard someone of Mark's intelligence and experience. The telecommunications industry is becoming increasingly global in scope and the Bureau needs strong economic data to make good policy decisions," said Don Gips, incoming Chief of the International Bureau. "Mark's expertise will be invaluable as the Bureau and the Commission face an exciting year in international telecommunications." Uretsky has a B.A. in Art History from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts. - FCC -
