NEWS July 8, 1996 COMMISSIONER NESS ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF ANITA WALLGREN AS LEGAL ADVISOR Commissioner Susan Ness today announced that Anita L. Wallgren has joined her staff as Legal Advisor. Ms. Wallgren will bear primary responsibility for assisting Commissioner Ness on mass media and cable television issues but will also work on selected issues in other areas as well. Ms. Wallgren served recently as Vice President, Legal and Business Affairs, for Sony Worldwide Networks, a radio syndication and Website provider based in New York. Prior to that she was Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Citicasters (formerly Great American Communications) in Cincinnati, which owned radio and television stations and entertainment companies. During the 1980s Ms. Wallgren was the principal mass media and intellectual property advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Early in her career she was manager of government relations for Taft Broadcasting, Cincinnati. Ms. Wallgren interned for Commissioner Anne P. Jones at the FCC while she was in law school and before that was traffic and continuity director of a radio station in her hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ms. Wallgren attended Kalamazoo College and earned her undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Michigan. "Anita brings a wealth of business and policymaking experience," said Commissioner Ness. "I know her expertise and judgment will help me, and the Commission as a whole, in working through the many complex issues before us." Once Ms. Wallgren arrives Legal Advisor David Siddall will concentrate primarily on wireless, international, and other spectrum issues. Senior Legal Advisor Jim Casserly will remain responsible for common carrier issues. -FCC-
