JEFFREY MACKIE-MASON TO BE FOURTH PARTICIPANT IN ECONOMIC SPEAKER SERIES Dr. Jeffrey MacKie -Mason, Associate Professor of Economics, Information and Public Policy at the University of Michigan, will be the next speaker in the Commission's Economic Speaker Series. Dr. MacKie-Mason will speak on July 17th, 1996, from 1:00PM-3:00PM in the Commission Meeting Room, Room 856, at 1919 M Street, NW Washington, DC. His presentation is entitled "Layering and Vertical Integration: Applications to Telecom and Microsoft." In this presentation he draws parallels between the network-architecture concept of layering and the economics of vertical integration, with particular reference to telecommunications and software industries. He will accept questions after his presentation. Dr. MacKie-Mason holds positions in the University of Michigan's Department of Economics, the School of Information, and the School of Public Policy. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The presentation will be shown on closed-circuit television throughout the Commission and it will also be taped.
