NEWS September 5, 1996 THOMAS A. BOASBERG NAMED SENIOR LEGAL ADVISOR OF INTERNATIONAL BUREAU Thomas A. Boasberg has been appointed Senior Legal Advisor at the International Bureau. Tom Boasberg comes to the Commission from the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. A fluent speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, he focused on telecom projects in China during his work at Paul, Weiss and helped negotiate one of the first major wireless projects undertaken by a U.S. company in China. Prior to joining Paul, Weiss, he worked from 1994-95 in the communications group at the law firm of Covington & Burling. Previously, he worked from 1990-93 as legislative assistant and staff chief to the chairman of Hong Kong's largest political party, from 1987-88 as a teacher in a Hong Kong public high school, and from 1986-87 as a CORO Public Affairs Fellow in New York City. He has written several articles on constitutional and political issues relating to Hong Kong's transfer of sovereignty to China in 1997. Boasberg graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1993. He graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors in History from Yale University in 1986. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and selected as a Harry S Truman Scholar. - FCC -
