CHAIRMAN ANNOUNCES FOUR APPOINTMENTS TO THE LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Chairman William E. Kennard has appointed four local and state government elected officials to fill vacancies on the Commission's Local and State Government Advisory Committee (LSGAC).

The LSGAC facilitates intergovernmental communications between local, county and state governments and the Commission. It provides advice and information to the Commission on key issues that concern local and state governments. In addition, the LSGAC communicates to the Commission information about state, county and local government policy concerns regarding proposed Commission actions pursuant to the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Membership of LSGAC is limited to elected officials of local, county and state governments or their designated representatives. The following nominees were appointed members of LSGAC:

The Honorable Kay Chapman, a member of the Iowa House of Representatives.

The Honorable Thomas E. Armstrong, a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The Honorable Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of the City of Boston.

The Honorable Michael Brasher, City Councillor, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

"I very much appreciate these highly qualified elected officials giving of their limited time to serve on this important committee," said Chairman Kennard. "The Commission looks forward to working with these new members, who can only increase the value of LSGAC's contributions to our deliberative processes."

Pursuant to Sections 204(b) of the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995, Pub. L. No. 104-4, 109 Stat. 66, the Committee is not subject to, and is not required to follow the procedures set forth in the Federal Advisory Committee Act, 5 U.S.C., App. 2 (1988).

For further information pertaining to these appointments, contact Rosalind Allen, the Commission's liaison to LSGAC, at (202) 418-0611, Federal Communications Commission, Washington, D.C. 20554.
