NEWS May 2, 1996 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES IN THE COMMERCIAL WIRELESS DIVISION Michele Farquhar, Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, announced today a series of personnel changes in the Commercial Wireless Division that became effective in December through April. "These actions," Ms. Farquhar noted, "essentially remove the 'acting' designation from several managers' job titles, and soldify the team I need in place for the important work that this Division does in licensing and regulating commercial mobile services." Taking new assignments in the Commercial Wireless Division during this period are David Furth as Division Chief and David Nall as Deputy Chief (Legal), while Sally Novak Janin becomes Special Counsel and Sandra Danner becomes Chief of the Legal Branch. Edward Jacobs remains as Deputy Chief (Technical/Data Management) and the other supervisory assignments in the Division are unchanged. David Furth is Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, a position he has held since December 1995. Since joining the FCC in August 1992, he has served as an attorney in the Private Radio Bureau, Deputy Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division, and as a Legal Advisor to Commissioner Rachelle Chong. Prior to joining the Commission, he was in private practice with Piper & Marbury in Washington, DC from 1984 to 1986 and at Shartsis, Friese & Ginsburg in San Francisco, California from 1986 to 1992. David is a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School. He lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife, Martha Finnemore, and their children, Andrew and Emma. David Nall is Deputy Chief (Legal) of the Commercial Wireless Division. Before coming to the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau in October 1995, David served as Deputy Chief of the Tariff Division in the Common Carrier Bureau. He was in private practice with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in Washington, DC from 1987 to 1994. He previously served as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State from 1974 to 1982. David is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Catholic University Law School, and holds an LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He lives in Takoma Park, Maryland with his wife, Laura Lester, and their son, Nathan Carlos. - more - - 2 - Sally Novak Janin is Special Counsel in the Commercial Wireless Division. She graduated from Boston College in 1979 with a BA in Slavic Studies and received her law degree from The National Law Center at The George Washington University in 1983. After several years in private practice, Mrs. Janin came to the FCC in 1990. Since joining the FCC, Mrs. Janin has been a Senior Attorney, Enforcement Division, Common Carrier Bureau; Legal Advisor to the Chief, Mobile Services Division, Common Carrier Bureau; and Chief, Legal Branch, Commercial Wireless Division. She resides in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Claude, and daughter, Rebecca. Sandra K. Danner is Chief of the Legal Branch, Commercial Wireless Division, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau. Prior to joining the Bureau in May of 1995, Sandra was in private practice from 1988 to 1995 in the Washington office of the law firm of Bryan Cave. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and graduated in 1988 from the University of Virginia School of Law.
