MONTEITH NAMED CHIEF OF THE WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU'S POLICY DIVISION Kris Monteith has been named Chief of the Policy Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau. Monteith comes from the Common Carrier Bureau's Competitive Pricing Division, where she has served as Deputy Chief since September 1998. In that capacity, Monteith has worked on local number portability cost recovery issues, among other pricing-related matters. Prior to that Monteith served as a Senior Attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Network Services Division. In that position, her responsibilities included work on various numbering issues and telecommunications services for individuals with hearing and speech disabilities. From August 1998 through April 1999 Monteith served as the Designated Federal Official for the North American Numbering Council. In that capacity she assisted the Council in carrying out its responsibility of providing recommendations to the Commission on numbering policy issues and provided legal guidance on the FCC's rules and decisions in the area of numbering administration. Before joining the Commission in 1997, Monteith worked for several years at the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery. From 1987-1995, Monteith practiced with the firm of Keller and Heckman. Her private practice experience focused on telecommunications issues, including work on wireless issues. Monteith received her J.D. from George Washington University and her B.A. in international relations from the University of Colorado. - FCC -
