      FCC DECLINES TO AMEND AMATEUR SERVICE RULES TO EXTEND TEMPORARY
               OPERATING AUTHORITY TO NEW AMATEUR OPERATORS
                          (PR DOCKET NO. 93-267)

     The Commission has declined to amend the Amateur Service
rules to extend temporary operating authority to a person who
passes the examination for a new amateur operator license.

     The Commission stated that the implementation of electronic
filing of applications has made the proposed temporary operating
authority unnecessary.

     Action by the Commission April 19, 1995, by Memorandum
Opinion and Order (FCC 95-165).  Chairman Hundt, Commissioners
Quello, Barrett, Ness, and Chong.
