PUBLIC NOTICE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION 1919 M STREET, N.W. WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 DA 97-85 News media information 202/418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov Released: January 15, 1997 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU SEEKS COMMENT ON PETITION FILED BY TELETRAC LICENSE, INC. FOR WAIVER OF SECTION 90.363(a) OF THE COMMISSION'S RULES TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSMITTERS On November 20, 1996, Teletrac License, Inc. filed a request for waiver of Section 90.363(a) of the Commission's Rules so as to permit it to construct and operate supplemental transmitters to complement its grandfathered multilateration location and monitoring service (LMS) systems. Teletrac contends that such supplemental transmitters are necessary to enable it to provide service to certain areas in the vicinity of its grandfathered locations that, because of terrain and other factors, do not receive signals from the grandfathered principal transmitters. Teletrac submits that the supplemental transmitters will not materially expand the geographic coverage of their grandfathered systems. It also asserts that the need for supplemental transmitters could only be determined after construction and testing of its grandfathered multilateration LMS systems. The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau is reviewing the waiver request to determine whether it meets the waiver criteria set forth in the Commission's rules and whether the request is consistent with the Commission's public interest goals.
