     WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU SEEKS
COMMENT 
   ON US WEST COMMUNICATIONS, INC. REQUEST FOR 
  EXTENSION OF LIMITED WAIVER OF SECTION 22.903 
             OF THE COMMISSION'S RULES

     On April 7, 1997, US WEST Communications, Inc. filed a request for
a one-year extension of a waiver of Section 22.903 of the Commission's Rules. 
The original waiver was granted on April 17, 1996 for a one-year term.  SeeRequest of US WEST Communications, Inc. for a Limited Waiver of Section
22.903 of the Commission's Rules, Order, 11 FCC Rcd 10905 (Wireless
Telecommunications Bureau 1996).  The waiver was granted to facilitate US
WEST's "held order" program, pursuant to which US WEST provides cellular
service to customers in its local exchange areas awaiting the installation of
landline telephone service.  US WEST avers that if the extension is granted,
it will continue to administer its held order program under the same terms and
conditions mandated by the Order granting the initial waiver, and that it will
continue to file quarterly reports detailing the results of the program.

     The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau is reviewing the waiver
request to determine whether it meets the waiver criteria set forth in the
Commission's rules and whether the request is consistent with the
Commission's public interest goals.  Comments should be filed on or before
April 28, 1997; reply comments should be filed on or before May 5, 1997.

     The Bureau hereby extends temporarily the authority of US WEST to
continue to operate beyond the April 17, 1997 deadline under the terms
specified in the April 17, 1996 Order until a determination is made regarding
the requested extension.

     Pursuant to Section 1.1200(a) of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. 
1.1200(a), any ex parte presentations that are made subsequent to the release
of this notice will be permissible but must be disclosed in accordance with the
requirements of Section 1.1206(a).
