PUBLIC NOTICE Federal Communications Commission 1919 M St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 Released: May 29, 1998 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU ANNOUNCES ANTENNA REGISTRATION SOFTWARE COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS95, REQUIRES REGISTRATIONS WITH NEW SOFTWARE BEGINNING TUESDAY, JUNE 1; FLAT FILE FORMAT TO BE ELIMINATED In a Report and Order released November 30, 1995, WT Docket 95-5, the Commission adopted rules to streamline the Commission's antenna clearance process and thereby decrease the number of filings regarding antenna clearance. Detailed information concerning the Commission's antenna registration procedures may be found in WTB Fact Sheet #15 available from the FCC's Forms Distribution Center at (800) 418-FORM (3676) or from the internet at http://www.fcc.gov/wtb/antenna. Since 1996, the Commission has encouraged electronic filing of antenna structure registration information via (1) interactive filing using free software available from our website, and (2) flat file format for transmitting large databases via e-mail. To better serve our customers, we have updated our free interactive filing/review software to ensure compatibility with Windows95. Users of the current software will continue to be able to file electronically without the use of Windows95, but must download the new software. Effective Monday, June 1, electronic antenna structure registrations must be made with the Windows95-compatible interactive software. The new software will be available for downloading, free of charge, at the Commission's antenna homepage on the internet (http://www.fcc.gov/wtb/antenna) on that date. Persons using the old filing/review software on or after June 1 will receive an error message and will be unable to complete electronic registrations or review the registration database. Between now and June 1, the public will be able to continue to download and use the existing software. For additional information or assistance in downloading or using the electronic filing software, please contact the FCC Technical Support Group at (202) 414- 1250. As stated above, the Commission currently permits owners to submit large databases of antenna information in a prescribed flat file format via e-mail. This filing method was necessary to accommodate the registration of more than 75,000 existing antenna structures (i.e., those constructed prior to July 1, 1996) that were to be registered between July 1, 1996, and June 30, 1998. Because all existing antenna structure must be registered by June 30, 1998, we do not anticipate a need for flat filing after that date. Therefore, we intend to eliminate the flat filing option after the final window closes in June 1998 and require electronically-filed registrations to be submitted via our interactive software. This approach should allow owners to complete their large submissions of registration information, even in cases where the Commission has granted additional time to owners of registering multiple structures in several states. -FCC-
