PUBLIC NOTICE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION 445 TWELFTH STREET, S.W.; TW-A325 WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 News Media Information: (202) 418-0500 Fax-On-Demand: (202) 418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov DA 99-1714 Released: August 25, 1999 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU TO HOLD A PUBLIC FORUM SEPTEMBER 14, 1999 ON UNIVERSAL LICENSING SYSTEM (ULS) MANDATORY ELECTRONIC FILING REQUIREMENT FOR COMMERCIAL WIRELESS APPLICANTS On September 14, 1999, the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC's) Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB) will host a public forum on the Universal Licensing System (ULS) for wireless applicants and licensees in commercial services that are now subject to the ULS mandatory electronic filing requirement. The forum is part of WTB's continuing effort to ease the transition to ULS for wireless services and to obtain comment on system performance and potential improvements. In a Public Notice (DA 99-1228) released June 23, 1999, WTB reminded applicants and licensees that applications in the following services must be submitted electronically beginning July 1, 1999: Paging and Radiotelephone Service, Offshore Radiotelephone Service, Auctioned LMDS, PCS and WCS, Auctioned 800 MHz SMR, Auctioned 220 MHz Service, Cellular Radiotelephone Service, and Auctioned LMS. WTB invites those who are responsible for filing applications, researching applications, and researching licenses in these radio services to provide the Bureau input regarding their experiences with ULS. The Bureau is particularly interested in questions, suggestions and comments that will help us better serve the public in the following areas: customer service, online data entry, application research, license research, and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) registration. Key Bureau staff will be on hand to record and answer individual questions. The Aircraft, GMRS, Microwave and Amateur services, while they have or will have been deployed in ULS at the time of the public forum, will not be addressed at the forum because the mandatory electronic filing requirement either does not apply or (in the case of auctionable Microwave services) is not yet in effect for those services. WTB plans to hold a similar public forum on those services at a later date. The public forum will take place in the Commission Meeting Room from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. local eastern time on September 14, 1999, at 445 12th St., SW, Washington, DC. Participants are encouraged to submit questions on the above-referenced topics and on other issues that they would like to see addressed at the forum. Issues and questions should be submitted by September 10, 1999, to Tonya Savage at (202) 418-0596, or via e-mail at tmsavage@fcc.gov. Parties interested in attending the public forum should notify Tonya Savage as soon as possible and provide their name, organization or firm, telephone number, and email (if applicable).
