DA 00-1580 Released: July 21, 2000 AUXILIARY BROADCAST FREQUENCY COORDINATOR DESIGNATED FOR THE 2000 REPUBLICAN CONVENTION IN PHILADELPHIA, PA The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated the Broadcast Operations Coordination Authority 2000 (BOCA2K) as the single point of contact under Section 74.24 of the Rules, 47 C.F.R. 74.24, from July 31, 2000 through August 3, 2000 for the 2000 Republican Convention to be held in Philadelphia, PA. This designation will allow for advance coordination of auxiliary broadcast frequency usage. To minimize harmful interference, all Parts 74, 78 and 101 licensees sharing spectrum licensed under Part 74 of the Commission's Rules are covered by this action. The affected area is within a 100- kilometer radius of Philadelphia, PA for terrestrial stations and a 150-kilometer radius for any mobile operations onboard aircraft. Similar action was taken by the FCC when it designated auxiliary broadcast frequency coordinators for the 1996 National Political Conventions, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, and the previous visit of Pope John Paul II to the United States. These actions were taken as a result of our concern that uncoordinated use of auxiliary broadcast stations on a special temporary authority basis might result in spectrum congestion and excessive interference causing less complete broadcast coverage. We believe that the potential for a similar situation exists during the 2000 Republican Convention scheduled to be held in Philadelphia, PA. As a result, the BOCA2K has been designated as the auxiliary broadcast frequency coordinator for the duration of the Republican Convention. All short-term auxiliary broadcast use under Part 74, without exception, shall be coordinated in advance through the BOCA2K Coordinator. The frequency coordination forms are available through the Society of Broadcast Engineers Web Site www.sbe.org. Completed forms should be faxed to Mr. Howard Fine at (310) 287-3827 or e-mailed to howard@pactv.com. The local frequency coordinator will provide assistance to all local and non-local Part 74 licensees, as well as all Parts 78 and 101 licensees sharing spectrum licensed under Part 74, for temporary fixed, mobile and portable installations.
