August 11, 1994 STATEMENT OF FCC CHAIRMAN REED HUNDT The Senate Commerce Committee today chartered this country's course towards clear and comprehensive telecommunications reform. A bipartisan coalition led by Senators Hollings, Inouye and Danforth has demonstrated leadership and foresight in forcefully bringing this issue forward at a time when Congress is also considering several other critical issues. In June, the House cast its vote for a clear and irrevocable commitment to competition among communications businesses and choice for all Americans in communications services. Today the Senate Commerce Committee calls on all of its colleagues to meet that challenge and provide consumers with the competition they want, need and deserve. Today's Senate action is a clear sign that the United States will continue to be a leader in telecommunications with choice and competition for all. I encourage all the private parties who are interested in this issue to continue working together for this reform which is so important for consumers and the economy. -- FCC --
