This article provides information on updating your FCC Registration Number (FRN) information. To update your FRN information, you need to complete FCC Form 161. The easiest way to complete FCC Form 161 is online by following the steps below.

Note: Updating your FRN information does not update information in the FCC’s licensing systems such as the Universal Licensing System (ULS) or Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) System. If you need to update information about licenses, you need to access the specific licensing systems.

This article provides information on getting an FCC Registration Number (FRN). You need an FRN if you are “doing business with the FCC.” To get an FRN, you need to complete FCC Form 160. The easiest way to complete FCC Form 160 is online by following the steps below.

  1. Go to the Commission’s Registration System (CORES) and Click Register.
  2. Answer whether the FRN is for an individual or business and whether the address for the contact is within the U.S. and click Continue.
  3. Complete the registration information and click Submit.

Why do I need an FCC Registration Number (FRN)?

The Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996 (DCIA) sets out to improve collection of delinquent government debts. As a result of the DCIA, the FCC and other executive agencies collect the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) from each individual or organization doing business with a federal agency, including applicants for, or recipients of, a federal license or permit.

You register your information in the FCC’s Commission Registration System (CORES) and are immediately issued an FCC Registration Number (FRN) and password that is tied to the TIN you provided.

  1. Providing your Personal Security Question (PSQ) or
  2. Setting up a Personal Security Question (PSQ).

Steps to Resetting an FCC Registration Number (FRN) Password if you have a Personal Security Question (PSQ)
  1. Go to the FRN Password Reset Page and click Reset Password.
  2. Enter your FRN and click Continue.
  3. Enter your Personal Security Question Answer and click Continue.
  4. Enter your new password in both boxes and click Continue.

    Note: Your new password is available immediately.

Steps to Resetting an FCC Registration Number (FRN) Password if you do not have a Personal Security Question (PSQ)
  1. Go to the FRN Password Reset Page and click Set Personal Security Question.
  2. Complete the information, check the Certify box and click Submit.

    Note: You can track the status of your request by using the Tracking Number your received. A request to set up a PSQ is usually completed within one business day. You will receive an email when your PSQ has been set.
