Mr. Smith is CEO/CIO of Community Partners HealthNet, Inc. in Snow Hill, North Carolina, a position that he has held since 1999. Community Partners HealthNet, Inc. is a practice management network of five community/migrant health centers. Mr. Smith is also President and CEO of Greene County Health Care, Inc., which is a diversified health care corporation, and of D. Alden Smith Associates, which provides community health and practice management consulting services. He has previous experience in managing health services and a foundation for the arts.

Mr. Smith's numerous professional affiliations have included the National Association of Community Health Centers, the North Carolina Primary Health Care Association, the Farmworker Health Alliance, and the Governor's Advisory Committee on Hispanic Affairs. Mr. Smith has been an adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Mr. Smith received an A.B. in psychology and anthropology from Brown University in 1971 and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School in 1979.
