BROADBAND AMERICA" REPORT, THE FIRST NATIONWIDE TEST OF WIRELINE
BROADBAND SERVICE
FCC to also unveil consumer resources to take the mystery out of choosing broadband speeds
Washington, D.C. On Tuesday, August 2, Federal Communications Commission Chairman JuliusGenachowski will unveil the results of the first nationwide test of residential wireline broadband service
in a report, "Measuring Broadband America." The effort is part of the FCC's intensive ongoing efforts to
expand access, promote adoption and spur innovation.
The result of those efforts, the "Measuring Broadband America" report, first proposed in the National
Broadband Plan, and takes major steps towards bringing greater clarity and competition to the home
broadband services marketplace. The study measured speed and performance as broadband is delivered to
the home so that different service providers and technologies could be compared scientifically.
The FCC will also unveil new consumer resources to help Americans take the confusion and mystery out
of choosing the speed they need, including tip sheets and a step-by-step guide.
