Peter Karanjia, Deputy General Counsel

Peter Karanjia is Deputy General Counsel, with primary responsibility for representing the Commission in the courts and other litigation-related matters. Before joining the Commission in 2010, Mr. Karanjia served as Special Counsel to the Solicitor General of the State of New York. In that capacity, he argued and supervised appeals, including cases presenting First Amendment and Internet-related issues, before the federal and state courts. Previously, Mr. Karanjia was a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, where he specialized in media and communications law, and intellectual property law. Earlier in his career, he was an associate in the litigation department of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Mr. Karanjia holds an LL.M from Harvard Law School, where he studied as a John F. Kennedy Scholar, as well as a Master’s Degree in Law from Oxford University, from which he graduated with First Class Honors.
