Consumer Advisory Committee
At its November 2, 2012 meeting, the Committee considered a recommendation from its Disability Working Group concerning updating of the Commission’s rules regarding Speech-to-Speech Relay Service (including implementation of video Speech-to-Speech Relay Service). A second recommendation for the Committee’s consideration, also proposed by its Disability Working Group, concerns people with disabilities and low income and underserved populations with respect to the Commission’s Mobile Health (mHealth) initiative. In addition, the Committee’s Media Working Group is expected to offer a recommendation to the Committee regarding disclosure in political advertising. The Committee also considered other recommendations from its working groups, and also received briefings from FCC staff and outside speakers on matters of interest to the Committee.
PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE
The Commission first established the Committee in November 2000 for the purpose of making recommendations regarding consumer issues within the jurisdiction of the Commission and to facilitate the participation of consumers, including people with disabilities and underserved populations, such as Native Americans and persons living in rural areas, in proceedings before the Commission.
The Committee is organized under, and operates in accordance with, the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, 5 U.S.C. App. 2 (1988). Each meeting of the Committee is open to the public. A notice of each meeting will be published in the Federal Register at least fifteen (15) days prior to each meeting. Records will be maintained of each meeting and made available for public inspection.
