Development of Consolidated Licensing System
On May 6, 2010, the Federal Communications Commission held a workshop to explore legal and technical challenges associated with creating an agency-wide Consolidated Licensing System (CLS). This workshop is part of the Commission's long-term reform initiative to examine the functions of its current licensing and application systems with the goals of developing a transparent, easily accessible, data driven, efficient, cost-effective and green consolidated licensing system.
The workshop was held in the FCC's Commission Meeting Room located at 445 12th St SW, Room TW-C305, Washington, D.C, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Commission encourages significant public input into this process, both in person and online. Registration is not required to attend in person, and the workshop can be viewed live online at FCC.gov/live. Participants will be able to submit questions in person or online through Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail. The Public Notice announcing the April 7 May 6 Workshop provides a general overview of the Commission's current licensing systems and offers a high-level description of some new features under consideration. The Public Notice identifies the major topics for the April 7 May 6 Workshop, the purpose of which is to maximize the exchange of information between the public and the FCC on the proposed processes. The Public Notice also served to open a docket, MD Docket No. 10-73, to consider the issues surrounding the proposed consolidated licensing system that will allow the Commission to include in the public record any minutes or of presentations made at the April 7 May 6 staff workshop. A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by the Commission will be forthcoming. Due to the size and complexity of this project, the Commission expects to deploy a new consolidated licensing system over time and in phases, consistent with the needs of the FCC and the public.
