Distance Learning

Distance learning is an Internet teaching environment where the student and the teacher are not in the same room, building, or even the same city. Distance learning is used in all areas of education, including pre-kindergarten through grade 12, higher education, home school education, continuing education, and business training.

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is a tax exempt American Indian organization representing 36 tribal colleges in the United States and one Canadian institution. Tribal Colleges frequently use distance learning to encourage student access and retention. This allows them to offer courses at many satellite locations, within the reservation, or on other reservations in the state.
