November 22, 1996 A SUMMARY OF RECENT LNPA TASK FORCE AND WORKING GROUP ACTIVITIES AND FUTURE MEETING PLANS A joint meeting of the two Task Forces reporting to the LNPA Selection Working Group was held on November 18 in Washington, D.C. This meeting was followed by a second meeting of the LNPA Selection Working Group at the same location and on the same day. The highlights of the first joint meeting of the LNPA Architecture and the LNPA Technical and Operational Requirements Task Forces and the subsequent Working Group meeting are as follows: 1. Co-chairs were elected for each task force. These are Renie Spriggs of Bell Atlantic and Hoke Knox of Sprint for Architecture and Sandra Cheung of PacBell and Bonnie Baca of AT&T for Technical/Operational Requirements. 2. Potential bidders for SMS/LNP were asked to announce their intentions at the meetings and indicate it in writing to the LNPA Working Group and the FCC. 3. The teams will support current state RFP efforts by developing information on needed common elements across all SMS/LNPs as well as administrator selection criteria. 4. The LNPA Architecture Task Force will address geographic coverage as well as LNPA selection and duties issues. See items 1 through 5 of the FCC Items (for NANC) list. It was noted that wireless LNP should be included in state RFPs. 5. Administrative arrangements including a consensus decision process were agreed upon, with one voice per entity for the task forces and escalation of issues to the LNPA Selection Working Group when necessary. 6. The Technical and Operational Requirements Task Force will address issues involving standards and specifications. Its first report will be made at the next Working Group meeting. See item 6 of the FCC Items (for NANC) list. A joint task force meeting will be held on December 3, 1996 followed by a Working Group meeting. A Technical and Operational Task Force meeting will also be held on the morning of December 4, 1996. All will be held at the Crystal City Courtyard by Marriott in Arlington, Va. 7. The question of whether a state may choose to enter or leave an NPAC location was directed to the FCC. Questions of capacity and whether a single vendor for SMA/LNP and the NPACs is appropriate were directed to the Working Group. 8.The Working Group met in the afternoon and noted that the next NANC meeting will be held December 2, 1996. The Working Group co-chairpersons will attend.
