Toll-Free Numbers
The Commission's toll-free policies and rules are designed to ensure the efficient, equitable, and orderly allocation of toll-free numbers. The Commission's regulation of toll-free numbers is based on its exclusive jurisdiction over numbering administration pursuant to §251(e) of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Commission's toll-free rules are set forth in 47 C.F.R. §§52.101 et seq., and toll-free numbers are administered in a central database, the SMS/800 Database.
