DA 97-2576 COMMISSION SEEKS COMMENT ON PETITION FOR TEMPORARY EMERGENCY WAIVER OF THE COMMISSION'S RULES GOVERNING THE OFFERING OF CUSTOMER PREMISES EQUIPMENT BY LECS CCBPol 97-12 Released: December 9, 1997 On December 1, 1997, U S WEST, Inc. (U S WEST), filed a petition for temporary emergency waiver of the Commission's rules governing the offering of customer premises equipment (CPE) by local exchange carriers (LECs). U S WEST requests that the Commission grant a limited waiver of the rules governing U S WEST's offering of CPE. U S WEST states that the waiver is necessary to permit U S WEST to extend its Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) offering in two limited geographical areas beyond the 12 kilofeet distance limitation of the High- bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL). U S WEST also seeks a temporary waiver of the Commission's network disclosure rules as they apply to the Network Interface of its DSL Service. Interested parties are to file comments on the petition for waiver filed by U S WEST on or before January 8, 1998, and reply comments by January 23, 1998, with the Secretary, FCC, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554.
