Fax on Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http:/www.fcc.gov FTP site: ftp.fcc.gov DA 98-1 09 Released: January 21, 1998 COMMON CARRIER BUREAU SEEKS COMMENT ON THE NANC RECOMMENDATION TO DELAY FILING OF 47 CFR 52.3(e) WA IVER REQUESTS BY INDIVIDUAL CARRIERS FOR LOCAL NU MBER PORTABILITY PHASE 1 IMPLEMENTATION CC Dock et 95-116 Comment Date: January 26, 1998 On January 21, 1998, the Common Carrier Bureau received a letter from the Chairman, North American Numbering Council (NANC) advising that the FCC s Phase I implementation schedule for Local Number Portability(LNP) deployment will be significantly affected in the Southeast, Western and West Coast regions by vendor failure to provide a stable platform to support local number portability. In light of the fact that vendor failure is the principal reason for carriers inability to timely meet the Commission s March 31, 1998, Phase I implementation date, the NANC recommends that a delay be granted until March 1, 1998, for the filing of waivers by carriers. NANC believes this will result in a more informed record upon which the FCC may act as described in the attached letter. We seek comments on whether to grant a 30 day extension of time. Comments are due by January 26, 1998. Ex parte presentations in this proceeding will be governed by the procedures set forth in Section 1.1206 of the Commission s rules, that are applicable to permit-but-disclose proceedings.
