DA 98-470 COMMISSION SEEKS COMMENT ON AMERITECH PETITION FOR RELIEF FROM BARRIERS TO DEPLOYMENT OF ADVANCED TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES CC DOCKET NO. 98-32 Released: March 6, 1998 On March 5, Ameritech Corporation filed a petition remove certain regulatory barriers to investment in advanced telecommunications services. In its petition, Ameritech asks the Commission to take the following measures: (1) eliminate the prohibition of Ameritech's provision of interLATA services under section 271 of the Act for high-speed broadband services by either (a) modifying the definition of a LATA to establish a single global LATA for provision of non-circuit switched data services and facilities, or (b) exercising its forbearance authority with respect to the application of section 271 to such services under section 706 of the Act; (2) modify the separation requirements of section 272 for high-speed broadband services; and (3) clarify that an affiliate that satisfies the modified separation requirements described in its petition is not an incumbent local exchange carrier for purposes of section 251(c) of the Act. Interested parties are to file an original and 12 copies of their comments on the Ameritech petition no later than April 6, 1998, with the Secretary, FCC, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554. An original and 12 copies of all reply comments are to be filed with the Secretary, FCC no later than May 6, 1998. All pleadings are to reference CC Docket No. 98-32.
