FCC ANNOUNCES DATA COLLECTION WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD ON APRIL 17 AND MAY 1

Workshops to Assist Carriers in Complying with the New Local Competition and Broadband Reporting Requirement

CC DOCKET NO. 99-301

Released: April 6, 2000

On March 24, 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted the Local Competition and Broadband Reporting Report and Order, which requires certain providers of broadband and local telephony services to provide specific information regarding their services on a new FCC form (Form 477). In an effort to assist the various entities that will be required to complete Form 477, the FCC will hold a workshop on April 17, 2000 and a follow-up Q & A session on May 1, 2000 in the Commission’s Meeting Room. The deadline for filing FCC Form 477 with the Commission is May 15, 2000.

April 17, 2000 Workshop
This workshop will be divided into two segments:

  • 1pm to 2pm - FCC staff will provide information to representatives from industry and trade associations tailored to assist them in providing information to their members, including who should file Form 477 and what their members should know about the form. Included in this session will be a brief overview of the requirements for filing, a review of Form 477, and suggested language for inclusion in association publications to alert members of the need to file Form 477.

  • 2pm to 4pm - FCC staff will hold an open workshop for the public to provide an overview of the new program and answer questions about completing Form 477. For those unable to attend the workshop at the FCC, there will also be a “RealAudio” webcast of the workshop that can be accessed through the RealAudio link on the Commission’s homepage at www.fcc.gov/realaudio/.

May 1, 2000 Workshop
  • 1pm to 4pm - This second workshop, designed to answer any follow-up questions industry respondents may have after filling out the form, will be held May 1, 2000 in the Commission Meeting Room.

Copies of FCC Form 477 can be obtained at www.fcc.gov/formpage.html or www.fcc.gov/broadband/data/ or by calling 1-800-418-FORM.
