FCC TO HOLD TELEPHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE PUBLIC FORUM

In its continuing effort to address consumer concerns, the FCC's Consumer Information Bureau (CIB) will hold a Telephone Customer Service Public Forum on Friday, June 9, 2000, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. The forum will unveil the results of a one-month study conducted by the Commission's Consumer Center analyzing complaints on telephone customer service operations.

Moderated by Lorraine Miller, CIB's Bureau Chief, consumers and consumer organizations -- including WRC-TV's consumer reporter, Liz Crenshaw, and representatives from the senior, Hispanic and disability communities -- will share their customer service experiences, challenging local, long distance and wireless telephone companies to initiate efforts to better serve consumers. An open floor discussion will follow these presentations, providing audience participation.

As more and more companies begin to offer consolidated telecommunications services, Chairman Kennard cited the forum as "a timely opportunity to focus on customer service satisfaction."

The forum will be held in the FCC's Commission Meeting Room at 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC. It is open to the public and seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. The event will be accessible in live video, audio and captioning formats through the FCC's website at http://www.fcc.gov/realaudio/. A transcript of the forum will be available 10 business days after the event on the FCC's Internet site. The URL address for the FCC's Home Page is http://www.fcc.gov.
