         FCC RELEASES BULLETIN ON MILLIMETER WAVE PROPAGATION


     The FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) has released Bulletin Number
70, "Millimeter Wave Propagation: Spectrum Management Implications," dated July, 1997.  This
bulletin reviews the propagation characteristics of millimeter waves -- i.e., wave lengths between
30 GHz and 300 GHz-- including free space propagation and propagation affected by various
physical factors.  In addition to providing a basic reference on the characteristics of radio signal
propagation at millimeter wave frequencies, it discusses the implications of these characteristics
for spectrum management.  It is intended for use by frequency managers, system designers, policy
makers, and users of millimeter wave communications.
