VOICE OVER IP NETWORKS TECHNOLOGY
AN OET TUTORIAL

The Office of Engineering and Technology will provide a tutorial on voice over the Internet on Friday, June 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th St. S.W., Room TW-C305, Washington, D.C The presentation will cover next generation networks based on VoIP, including soft switches, media gateways, media servers, VoIP standardization status, and market drivers of VoIP technologies.

The presenter, Dr. M. Niel Ransom, is Chief Technology Officer for Alcatel USA. Previously Dr. Ransom was Alcatel's Vice President & General Manager of Advanced Systems and Vice President and General Manager of Local Networks. Before that, Dr. Ransom worked for Bell South as Senior Director of Advanced Technology subsequent to having worked at Bell Laboratories as Technical Manager for Exploratory Development. Dr. Ransom has received numerous honors, is widely published and has been granted three patents for advanced telecommunications technologies. Dr. Ransom holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

Members of the public may attend the presentation, and every effort will be made to accommodate as many people as possible. Admittance, however, will be limited to the seating available in the Commission meeting room. Please allow sufficient time for clearance through Commission security before the presentation begins.
