PanAmSat Licensee Corporation File No. 106-SAT-ML-98 PanAmSat Licensee Corporation has filed an application for modification to extend the license term of its PAS-1 satellite. The license term for the PAS-1 expires June 28, 1998. PanAmSat expects PAS-1 to remain operational for an additional five years and is seeking to the modify the license to extend its term the earlier of either: (1) five years from the license expiration date or (2) the date a replacement satellite for PAS-1 has been successfully placed into orbit and its operations fully conform to the terms and conditions of its space station authorization. Alternatively, PanAmSat requests a grant of special temporary authority to continue to operate PAS-1 for a period of 180 days following the expiration of its license (see File No. 107-SAT-STA-98). Loral Space & Communications Ltd. File Nos. 111-SAT-ML-98 Loral Space & Communications Ltd. has filed an application for modification of its authorization to construct, launch and operate its Loral-1 hybrid C/Ku-band satellite. (See Loral Space & Communications Ltd., 11 FCC Rcd 13788 (1996), 11 FCC Rcd 20441 (1996).) In its application, Loral (1) clarifies that the coverage area of the satellite will be North America; (2) requests authority to employ twenty-four 36 MHz Ku-band transponders in lieu of the thirty-two 27 Mhz Ku-band transponders previously authorized; (3) increases the C-band transponder power as a result of using 37 watt travelling wave tube amplifiers; and (4) describes minor engineering changes designed to improve the spacecraft efficiency. Teledesic LLC File No. 195-SAT-ML-97 On January 13, 1998, the Chief of the Satellite and Radiocommunication Division requested Teledesic LLC to clarify and submit additional information regarding its application for minor modification of its license. (Letter from Thomas T. Tycz to Mark A. Grannis, counsel for Teledesic LLC (dated January 13, 1998).) Teledesic LLC, submitted its response to this letter on March 23, 1998. The Commission seeks comment on this submission. Responses to this submission should be submitted on or before May 11, 1998, and replies on or before May 21, 1998.
